Bò chọi nhau và lũ Ếch
Hai Bò mộng chọi nhau chí tử
Trên cánh đồng, cạnh thửa ruộng lầy
Ếch già vẫn sống ở đây
Sợ run cầm cập mặt ngây cán tàn
«Sao mà bác nhát gan quá vậy?»
Ếch non thưa lúc nhảy lại gần.
«Cháu ơi, mày chưa một lần
Thấy Bò mộng đánh nhau gần chúng ta.
Khi con bại tụt ra ngoài cỏ
Ngã lăn quay xuống hố rêu này
Thì mình bị đè bẹp ngay… »
Sự tình rõ tựa ban ngày tiếp theo
Bò thua trận lao vèo xuống hố
Móng guốc to dậm cổ Ếch già
Ếch con sao thoát được ra
Muỗi ruồi còn chết nữa là Ếch kia…
Cô thỏ với rất nhiều ban
Cô Thỏ được nhiều con thú biết
Con nào cũng muốn kết bạn bè
Một hôm chợt lắng tai nghe
Thấy đàn chó đã cận kề rừng bên
Thỏ muốn cậy bạn hiền giúp đỡ
Giúp cho mình xoay xở thoát thân
Thấy rằng Ngựa đang đứng gần
Liền nhờ bạn Ngựa ra ân cõng mình
Nhưng Ngựa vội trần tình là khó
Vì chủ nhân đang có việc giao
Giúp thì bất cứ bạn nào
Cũng đều giúp được, không sao đâu mà.
Thỏ quay sang cậy nhờ Bò đực
Sẽ dùng sừng đuổi húc Chó đi
Bò xin lỗi ngay tức thì
Nói rằng đang chuẩn bị đi hẹn hò
«Nhưng nhiều bạn đang chờ giúp đấy
Bảo thằng Dê nó ngoáy cặp sừng
Chó kia sẽ chạy tứ tung… »
Có điều Dê bảo rằng lưng mình gày
Sợ cõng Thỏ sẽ gây đau đớn
Sao cô không nhờ đến bạn Cừu
Cừu thưa hỡi Thỏ quí yêu
Chó xơi Cừu cũng nhiều nhiều lắm thay
Túng kế quá Thỏ quay tìm Nghé
Nghé đáp rằng khối kẻ to đầu
Cậy nhờ còn chẳng vào đâu
Thì mình bé nhỏ giúp sao bây giờ…
Tiếng chỏ sủa bất ngờ vang dậy
Thỏ ta đành nhờ cậy bốn chân
Vậy mà thoát, phúc bội phần
Bè nhiều mà bạn khi cần chẳng ai!

1- The Fighting Bulls and the Frog
Two Bulls were fighting furiously in a field, at one side of which was a marsh. An old Frog living in the marsh, trembled as he watched the fierce battle.
“What are you afraid of?” asked a young Frog.
“Do you not see,” replied the old Frog, “that the Bull who is beaten, will be driven away from the good forage up there to the reeds of this marsh, and we shall all be trampled into the mud?”
It turned out as the Frog had said. The beaten Bull was driven to the marsh, where his great hoofs crushed the Frogs to death.
When the great fall out, the weak must suffer for it..
2- The Hare With Many Friends
A Hare was very popular with the other beasts who all claimed to be her friends. But one day she heard the hounds approaching and hoped to escape them by the aid of her many Friends. So, she went to the horse, and asked him to carry her away from the hounds on his back. But he declined, stating that he had important work to do for his master. “He felt sure,” he said, “that all her other friends would come to her assistance.”
She then applied to the bull, and hoped that he would repel the hounds with his horns. The bull replied:
“I am very sorry, but I have an appointment with a lady; but I feel sure that our friend the goat will do what you want.” The goat, however, feared that his back might do her some harm if he took her upon it. The ram, he felt sure, was the proper friend to apply to. So she went to the ram and told him the case. The ram replied: “Another time, my dear friend. I do not like to interfere on the present occasion, as hounds have been known to eat sheep as well as hares.” The Hare then applied, as a last hope, to the calf, who regretted that he was unable to help her, as he did not like to take the responsibility upon himself, as so many older persons than himself had declined the task. By this time the hounds were quite near, and the Hare took to her heels and luckily escaped. He that has many friends, has no friends.
